revive your heart

I have been watching Nouman Ali Khan lectures for a while now. I personally find his talks really beneficial - It is probably the fact that his approach is so relatable, particularly to the younger generation.

I'm sure a lot of you have seen them, and for those who haven't, I'm sure you've heard of him by now. Firstly I didn't even know he had written a book, so you can imagine how I felt when I found out that he had - how did I not know?!

When Kube Publishing contacted me to collaborate and send me Revive Your Heart to review, the excitement was unreal! Even better to know that I'll be one of the first people to be able to read it, words cannot describe how excited it made me!

I soon received Revive Your Heart in the post and obviously started reading it straight away. Now you have to understand, I have two kids and I run a business so time is very limited. But when I am excited about something, I end up finding time for that particular thing that I didn't even know I had! And that's what happened with this book.

I literally, every chance I got, read. On some days it would only be a couple of paragraphs, but what I would learn from it, stayed. And it made me want to input what I learnt into my life.

An Instant Connection

Can I just say that it felt almost as if Nouman Ali Khan was talking to me as I read the book. I feel like it's written in a conversational way where it's almost like he's having a conversation with you. Personally, I think that captured my attention. Maybe it could just be me because I have heard a lot of his lectures so it sounded like a familiar voice.

Anyway, I was hooked from the beginning. From the very-first-chapter. It is a topic which is very important to me. He calls the chapter "A prayer for desperate times". Have you ever read something then literally got goosebumps from it? Now, I'm going to be honest with you guys as well as getting goosebumps from this chapter it also, nearly brought me to tears.

The chapter is centred around a particular ayah from surah Al Qasas. It talks about something that prophet Musa (alayhi al-salam) says to Allah when he is going through a particularly difficult time in his life.

It's a very famous du'a. I'm sure a lot of you have read it before. The verse from surah Al Qasas reads, "My Lord, I am truly in great need of any good that You might send down to me."

I didn't know how deep the meaning of this du'a was until I read the book and how much meaning it had. Nouman Ali Khan describes it in a way which I will probably never forget. It's literally made me look at it from a completely different angle.

Look at it this way, "whatever you already sent down, I was in desperate need of it". What I love about this is that it's like saying, what I have now is what I am in desperate need of. The clothes I have, the roof I have over my head. It is so beautiful to think that what is already given to me, even without me knowing is what I desperately needed.

The General Gist

The first chapter was only one of the parts I loved about the book. Another thing that really captured me was the structure in which it was written. Every chapter started with a point, backed with a verse/ verses from the Quran and ended explaining in depth what it meant. So every point he made had a lot of evidence to support it then was explained in various different ways so that we can understand.

Furthermore, what was amazing was that he also translated the Arabic. Let's put it this way by the end of this book, I ended up using most of the Arabic he translated because I actually understood it. This is so beneficial for me because when I do go to read particular surahs in the Quran now, I'll actually be able to understand a bit more of what I am reading in sha'Allah.

Okay, so I probably should have begun talking about this, but better late than never right? The book basically discusses the problems modern Muslims face today. From being able to keep a spiritual connection with Allah, to how to deal with negativity about our religion in the media. It is truly a beneficial book and one that we can all gain from in sha'Allah.

If you would like to purchase the book, you can buy it from the Kube Publishing website here is the link >>>Revive Your Heart<<<

  3. As a revert, one of the first bunch of sermons I've listened to in audio files is Nouman Ali Khan's. I find that he is very logical and so, I relate to that a lot. I, too, just found out that he wrote a book. He didn't look it... hehehe. But I'm sure this is just as good as his lectures. Can't wait to get an ebook of it.
